WEDNESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER
ROUND TABLE
Participants at the Intertek ShipCare roundtable were able to provide rst-hand observations on a wide range of issues associated with the introduction of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 0.50% sulphur global cap, including compliant fuel availability, very low sulphur fuel oil (VLSFO) characteristics, fuel compatibility and testing, on board preparations, and enforcement of the IMO 2020 regulations. The discussion also moved beyond the 1 January 2020 deadline, to consider how shipping may begin to embark on its energy transition to a low/zero carbon future in order to align with the targets de ned by the IMO in its initial greenhouse gas (GHG) strategy, published in April 2018.
