The LISW19 Headline Conference built on LISW19’s central theme, International Trade in a Changing World, as well as the sub-themes of Growing, Innovating and Partnering. With a top-level line-up of international industry and government speakers, it considered global economic pressures, protectionism, technology, regulations, environmental issues and, of course, Brexit, and their potential impact on the maritime industry.
Mark Jackson, Vice Chair of the LISW19 Steering Group and
Chief Executive of the Baltic Exchange, opened the conference and introduced the day’s moderator Paddy Rodgers, Director of the Royal Museums Greenwich, Chairman of ITOPF Ltd and former CEO of Euronav.
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department
for International Trade, Graham Stuart MP, presented a keynote entitled International Trade in a Changing World, before Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) looked at the impact on global trade of the IMO’s global sulphur cap and 2050 carbon emissions targets.
