Lord Mountevans’ City career began in 1972 as a graduate trainee with the international shipbroker Clarksons. He was appointed to the Board in 1989 and served as Managing Director of the Gas Division 2001-2014. The Company is the world’s leading shipping services provider with 48 offices in 20 countries; it is headquartered in London and is quoted on the London Stock Exchange.
Jeffrey is a Member of the Baltic Exchange, a Member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and a Younger Brother of Trinity House. He chairs Maritime London, the organisation promoting London and the UK’s maritime professional services. He recently chaired the ‘Maritime Growth Study’ for the UK government.
In 2007 Jeffrey was elected Alderman for the Ward of Cheap. He has been heavily involved in schools that are closely related to the City and is an Almoner of Christ’s Hospital, and is Deputy Chairman of the City of London Academy Islington, as well as a Trustee of the St Paul’s Cathedral Chorister Trust, and a member of the Corporation’s Education Board. He served as the 688th Lord Mayor of the City of London from 2015 – 2016.
Jeffrey succeeded his brother in December 2014, to become Lord Mountevans. In July 2015 he was elected to sit as a Hereditary Crossbench Peer in the House of Lords. Jeffrey met Juliet at Cambridge. They have been married for 43 years. Juliet is a former solicitor and more recently Adviser at Chelsea Citizens’ Advice Bureau. They have two sons.
