Markos Lyras is the Chief Executive Officer of Lyras Maritime Limited. A private London-based family Shipping business founded in 1936. Markos is the fourth generation of his family to be involved in the maritime industry and the third generation to actively run the company. Over the years, Lyras Maritime have been active in the Dry Cargo, Tanker and Container Sectors. They also provide advice on insurance and chartering, as well as finance through Lyras Financial Services Ltd.
Markos graduated with a BA in Political Science and International Affairs from Northeastern University in Boston, USA. Following University, he gained experience as a Sale and Purchase Ship Broker for MJLF & Associates in Stamford, CT. He then spent time at JP Morgan Investment Bank in M&A, focused on Transportation. This included Aviation, Rail, Logistics and Shipping, where he worked on various M&A deals in these sectors. In 2008, Markos decided to return to London to join Lyras Maritime Ltd. and work on modernising the company and its associated fleet.
Markos is a board member of the Hellenic War Risk insurance club, where he also sits on the Strategy and Reinsurance committee.
He is passionate about charitable causes, serving as a board member for the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy.
