The UK Chamber of Shipping was delighted this week to welcome the election of Lord Mountevans as Lord Mayor of the City of London. Lord Mountevans, a managing director at Clarksons Platou former Chair of Maritime UK and Chair of the Maritime Growth Study will become the City’s 688th Mayor on November 13.

The mayoral role, which is more than 800 years old, encompasses day-to-day City issues such as parking and services as well as ensuring the area’s pre-eminent place in global finance. As Mayor, Lord Mountevans will spend about three months a year leading overseas delegations trying to win business for the City.
Lord Mountevans, picking up a theme of the Maritime Growth Study, said he would make innovation the theme of his year-long term. ““Innovation is a key part of London’s success, not just in my field of maritime services and logistics, but also in other important world-beating sectors of professional services, skills and education,” he said.
“As Lord Mayor, I want to celebrate this power to innovate and drive it forward to help create more wealth and jobs, not just in London, but also across the UK and Europe.”
