“The OSCAR (Ocean and Shipping Community Advancing Children’s Health and Research) campaign is an innovative fundraising partnership uniting the international shipping community under a philanthropic banner to raise significant funds towards areas of urgent need at Great Ormond Street Hospital and its research partner, the UCL Institute of Child Health” says Great Ormond Street Hospital’s website.
Through fundraising events including the now infamous Dragon Boat Race, the OSCAR campaign has raised over £1.3 million to fund key research into childhood leukaemias and immune diseases.
In 2015, the Dragon Boat Race took place at the end of London International Shipping Week and was a huge success with 25 teams entered from diverse organisations across the shipping community.
This year, OSCAR is hoping to hit its £1.5 million target and would like to call on the support of the shipping community to get involved in the 2016 boat race on Friday 16th September at the Docklands Sailing and Watersports Centre in London. OSCAR will be looking for 25 teams of 11 people, 10 rowers and a drummer.
