|Every year around the world, there are over one hundred ships lost and many hundreds of seafarers killed or seriously injured. There is nothing worse than a major incident. Memories last forever. The reputations of companies and individuals are damaged, and the costs are high.
Improvements in safety performance are possible but it will take leadership, collective responsibility and all of our industry working collaboratively together as one team.
In light of this vision the UK Chamber of Shipping has developed a ‘Safety Culture Charter’ to encourage their ship owner and operating members to commit to promoting, and adopting, a positive Safety Culture within their organisations, leading from the top down. This charter is a demonstrable step towards making improvements in safety, driving continuous improvement of Safety Culture across the industry with the overall aim of reducing accidents and incidents.
This launch event will see the charter take centre stage on the road to improving Safety Culture and the event will be open to all those interested in safety at sea including international visitors during LISW.
