Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers London International Shipping Week webinar:

Commercial opportunities towards decarbonisation

by London and South East Branch Committee, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers

In the years, ahead the push towards decarbonisation of the global shipping industry will continue apace. What commercial opportunities can be foreseen? Often the focus is on more regulation and increased costs, but potential for positive outcomes is also visible.

The London & South East Branch of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers will be hosting a webinar about this topic on Monday evening 13th September during LISW week. Speakers participating are senior executives with a variety of shipping backgrounds, bringing a wealth of relevant experience. They will explore and debate many perplexing aspects, and offer valuable insights into potential for profitable business activity.

Our panel of speakers will consist of Mark Williams, managing director, Shipping Strategy; Claire Wright, general manager, commercial shipping and strategy, Shell; Steve Laybourn, chartering manager (Europe) and head of energy transition projects, Ardmore Shipping Services. The panel will be moderated by Susan Oatway, International Chair, Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers.

Ideas about the necessary energy transition in the world fleet of merchant ships – tankers, bulk carriers, container ships and other vessel types – frequently emphasise the outlook as an existential threat, for which solutions are still being sought. A more positive view envisages the commercial opportunities likely to emerge in many parts of the industry.

This webinar will discuss how shipowners, charterers and ancillary businesses could be reshaped and can enhance their activities. Topics include aspects of LNG carriers, FSRUs, LNG bunkering, and carbon obligations for owners and charterers including the EU’s emissions trading scheme.
