Sarah began her career as a marine environmental scientist, working for the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and then as an independent environmental consultant. Sarah entered the defence industry somewhat by accident, joining QinetiQ in 1998 to deliver naval research and technology programmes, before moving on to business and sales management, and culminating in leading the largest of QinetiQ’s operating businesses ‘Maritime, Land and Weapons’, as well as being a director of the QinetiQ Australia business.

In August 2017, Sarah took up the role of Chief Executive for BMT Group; a leading international scientific and engineering technical services and consulting business, with deep specialism in the maritime and defence domains. BMT prides itself on working in partnership with clients to address their most challenging needs.

Sarah is a member of the UK Defence Innovation External Advisory Panel, the UK Department for Transport Maritime 2050 Expert Panel, and the UK Maritime Enterprise Working Group (accountable for the industrial response to the National Ship Building Strategy). She is also a member of the board of the Society of Maritime Industries.

Sarah is very proud to be an Honorary Officer of the Royal Navy, and an Honorary member of the Royal Corps of Naval Constructors. Passionate about sustainment of the UK engineering, science and technology skills base, Sarah is a STEM ambassador and commits time to STEM projects in the Maritime field.
