This year’s highly anticipated LISW is a welcome opportunity to gather with industry colleagues and exchange opinions about how the sector will rally to overcome some of its greatest challenges. From a humanitarian perspective, the crew change crisis caused by the pandemic left many seafarers stranded for many months on board vessels, unable to return home. To support seafarers and raise awareness of their crucial role, we teamed up with four of the world’s leading maritime charities and Royal Museums Greenwich for our ‘Sing for Seafarers’ campaign. We are looking forward to recoginising shipping’s Unsung Heroes of 2021 at our award ceremony on Tuesday 14 September. On commercial and operational levels, shipping’s risk environment is also becoming increasingly complex as technology continues to pose new threats as well as opportunities. Cyber, spoo ng and ransomware attacks present serious threats to operations, relationships and reputations requiring owners and operators to look beyond regulatory compliance to ensure that they are suf ciently protected. At the same time, technology has the potential to make a signi cant impact on how the industry manages growing geo political risks. For example, deepening knowledge and taking preventative due diligence measures within sanctions compliance strategies can be enhanced through digital intelligence. Ince believes that combining technology expertise, with training and advice will help to mitigate burgeoning risks and create more commercial opportunities across a range of issues as the sector moves forward.
As part of Ince’s commitment to nding innovative approaches to support the industry, earlier this year we announced the establishment of InceMaritime, an industry- rst integrated legal advisory, business consultancy, and technology offering for the maritime sector. Under the InceMaritime umbrella, we announced a partnership with Mission Secure to provide clients with a fully integrated cyber security offering that protects on-shore and on-vessel OT networks, safeguards operations, and ensures compliance and business continuity. As part of the InceMaritime offering, we recently launched an enhanced specialist sanctions compliance solution that mitigates sanctions risk, demonstrates rigorous due diligence and helps avoid costly penalties through a co-operation agreement with maritime AI provider Windward. This is supported by our collaboration with New York based law rm Seward & Kissel LLP, to enable clients to obtain sanctions legal advice covering the EU, England & Wales and U.S. sanctions applications. We are very much looking forward to meeting with industry friends throughout the week and welcoming attendees to our multiple events during LISW21.
