Bureau Veritas
Bureau Veritas (BV) is the largest testing, inspection, and certi cation (TIC) organisation in maritime markets combining marine classi cation with TIC expertise across all industries and services. BV’s Industries Division is highly active in fuel testing, through Verifuel, and in providing commodities and cargo testing services to global traders and charterers. With the maritime sector ourishing in the UK, BV’s Marine & Offshore teams are supporting growth – for example in the development and classi cation of safe, ef cient, and highly sophisticated support vessels for offshore wind, globally. 25 BV-classed crew transfer vessels (CTVs) have now been completed at just one yard in the Isle of Wight.
Globally well-known for smaller, specialized ships, BV is a class leader in larger, sophisticated tonnage such as the biggest gas-fueled containerships ever built, the largest LNG carriers currently on order – as well as all types of ships in all sectors. BV is supporting shipping’s transition towards sustainability. From gas-fueled ships today to hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia-powered ships of tomorrow, BV is providing a classi cation and digital platform for the future. New ammonia rules released in July are a class rst, joining rules for wind-powered ships issued earlier this year. Rules for fuel cells will follow and hydrogen rules will be ready in 2022.
Beyond alternative fuels and propulsion technologies, BV’s role in marine classi cation is helping to build the shipping industry of tomorrow. LISW 2021 is a welcome showcase for the world-leading expertise and capabilities to be found in London and across the UK. From BV’s UK & Ireland operations centre in Newcastle to our offshore services presence in Aberdeen, the London-based headquarters of our subsidiaries Matthews Daniel and TMC Marine, and our surveyors and experts across the UK, we are proud to play our part in shaping a vibrant and growing future for UK maritime.
