Rod joined the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Maritime Directorate as Deputy Director Maritime Growth in February 2016. He has had a wide range of maritime roles since then including overseeing the final publication of the Port Connectivity Study and Maritime 2050. Rod took over the Maritime Strategy, Programmes and Special Projects Division in January 2020 but, since March, has been leading the Maritime Directorate’s COVID-19 Policy Division.
Prior to that Rod has had a number of roles in the DfT and its predecessors including leading negotiations in the European Union on a range of aviation security issues, working for HS2 Ltd providing advice to Government on the development of routes and stations for phase two and leading the Department for Transport’s Business Planning process. Rod has had spells in private office and on secondment at the Marine Accident Investigation Branch.
